The Beatrice Cultural Center will be a focal point of the area designed to engage the community with a number of activities and services with both indoor and outdoor programmed functions. It is inspired by the strong history and legacy of the Civil Rights Foundation in the State of Alabama, and is meant to celebrate the lines and the work of a number of unsung Civil Rights Leaders and members – many of who attended J.F. Shields High School just across the street. The Center will have an exterior Walk of Fame that will celebrate the impactful legacies of the individuals and moments that helped to build a strong foundation of Civil Rights in the State of Alabama / southeast region. There will be formal and community gardens surrounding the facility to support various indoor/outdoor functions. The interior spaces of the Cultural Center are composed of offices/conference rooms, a kitchen/prep area, a formal indoor / outdoor dining room and a multi- purpose room that can seat up to 100 people including support spaces. The kitchen and prep area are designed and positioned to support the indoor/outdoor functions. It is envisioned that the community can hold functions ranging from wedding receptions to community meetings. The center will support the needs of the community by providing meeting spaces all the while being a catalyst for the future community and Civil Rights activities and involvement.
